Wireless Telecom Engineering Design for Vodafone and Optus

Moldtek was entrusted with the design and upgradation of telecom infrastructure for Vodafone and Optus, involving various tower types, including lattice towers, monopoles, and guyed mast towers. The project demanded precision engineering, compliance with safety standards, and seamless integration of antennas, RRUs, and ODUs.

The scope included galvanized steel towers with heights ranging from 9.0m for rooftop installations to approximately 200.0m for ground-based towers. Structural enhancements were necessary for existing towers, requiring upgrades through increased member section sizes. The team ensured proper installation of climbing ladders, feeder brackets, and vertical cable trays for efficient cable management.

For monopoles, designed from galvanized steel or reinforced concrete, sizes varied from 0.85m at the base to 0.35m at the top, with feeder cables routed internally to maintain a streamlined structure. Guyed mast towers, reaching heights of up to 300.0m, were strategically reinforced while adhering to aviation safety regulations with red and white markings.

Antenna installations on lattice towers posed design challenges, particularly with new headframes and structural optimizations. However, careful planning and meticulous execution ensured seamless assembly and commissioning.
