Successful Execution of the All-Electronic Toll (AET) Gantry Project—Polk Parkway, Florida

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was looking to cue the assembly process for the Range Rover Velar GT EMA L481 model, concentrating on the production of critical body panels—wheelhouse rear quarter, Body Sides Inner (BSI), Body Sides Inner Reinforcement (BSIR), and Body Sides Outer (BSO). Ultimately, the prime goal was to optimize design and manufacturing processes in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and cycle time reduction.

This post discusses how a toll gantry system is developed under an All Electronic Toll (AET) Change project at Polk Parkway in Florida. A gantry system supports traffic signs while carrying important electronics such as radars, cameras, speed guns, and laser scanners, mounted on engineered tower members designed for stability and access. Varied into several sub-assemblies: there are trusses, staircases, upright supports, railings, and gearboxes. Structural components were painstakingly designesupportolidWorks 2021, with welding and bolting as the principal methods of fabrication.

During project implementation, many challenges arose particularly in improving the function of structural components build incorporating the truss platform and the stair railings for equipment structures to be mounted. Final amendments on the truss platform improve optimization of grating and railing designs to ensure proper access for equipment to reach their housed doors. Repositioning of fixed structures mounted also optimizes space without excessive reduction in stability.

However, despite such complexity, the project was executed and delivered on time as per the client’s requirement. Well-coordinated efforts in design detailing and execution led to seamless assembly and installation without onsite issues. The efficient and effective solution approach to engineering and problem-solving earns this project the praise from clients for its accuracy and reliability.

Moldtek caters to power transmission, traffic management, infrastructure development, and urban planning. Our solutions serve public utilities, transportation authorities, and private enterprises in need of design, innovation, and efficient utility engineering services.

A power transmission tower is a tall steel structure designed to support overhead power lines that transmit electricity over long distances. These towers are critical to national and regional electrical grids. Through precise power transmission tower design and structural analysis, the towers ensure efficient energy delivery while withstanding environmental forces such as wind, ice, and seismic activity. Moldtek offers specialized steel tower design services and detailed engineering to meet utility and regulatory standards.

Transmission towers can be engineered for both AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) systems, depending on the electrical application. Most regional grids use AC towers due to ease of integration and voltage conversion, but HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) towers are used for long-distance or underwater transmission. Moldtek’s expert team provides transmission design solutions customized for both AC and DC systems, with robust tower detailing to ensure safety, durability, and compliance.

There are four main types of power transmission towers, each serving a specific function in the grid:

• Suspension Towers – Carry conductors in a straight path.
• Tension (Anchor) Towers – Resist the pull of conductors and allow direction changes.
• Transposition Towers – Adjust conductor positions to balance electrical load.
• Dead-End Towers – Mark the end of a line or major directional shift.
• Each tower type requires unique steel tower design services, precise load calculations, and advanced tower detailing all of which are core offerings in Moldtek’s transmission tower design solutions.

Steel tower design services refer to the structural engineering, modeling, and detailing of towers made from steel for applications such as power transmission, telecommunication, traffic management, and infrastructure support. These services involve:

• Structural analysis to ensure the tower can withstand wind, seismic, and load conditions.
• 3D and 2D modeling using software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and PLS-TOWER.
• Shop and fabrication drawings for manufacturing and assembly.
• Material optimization to reduce waste and improve cost-efficiency.
• Compliance with global standards such as AISC, ASME, and IEC.

At Moldtek, our steel tower design services are tailored to meet the specific needs of utility and infrastructure projects, ensuring strength, durability, and regulatory compliance from concept to construction.
